About the Recipe

This is how Filipinos like to eat their chocolate…with rice!

Yes, I know that this is eaten more as a breakfast item. but Champorado is sweet, and I feel like this can be loosely classified under the dessert category based on its flavour profile. So, whenever you decide to eat this throughout the day, its super easy to make. All you need is sweet rice, water, sugar, and tablea or cocoa powder and that is it. A super simple sweet treat to make for breakfast, snack or dessert. You can even eat this with fish for a savoury flavour or pair it with some evaporated milk, usually served warm but honestly I kind of like it better cold.

Ingredients

5 cups water

1 cup jasmine or glutinous rice, uncooked and washed

6 tbsp cocoa powder or tablea

6 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

  1. Add the water to the rice in a pot and cook on medium heat uncovered, until about 60% of the water has been absorbed.

  2. Add cocoa powder or tablea and mix thoroughly. Add brown sugar and salt.

  3. Cook and mix continuously until it thickens in texture.

  4. Serve with milk and extra sugar as needed.
